Hon. Patricia M. Lucas (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Silicon Valley

Retired Santa Clara County Superior Court judge JAMS as an arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator

New Panelist Announcement

Santa Clara – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. Patricia M. Lucas (Ret.) has joined its panel. Judge Lucas joins JAMS after serving over 20 years on the Santa Clara County Superior Court.

Judge Lucas was appointed to the bench in 2003 and presided over complex civil cases, including multiparty, coordinated and consolidated actions; class actions; and Private Attorneys General Act claims. She also handled civil pretrial motion calendars and numerous civil jury and bench trials. While on the bench, Judge Lucas served as the presiding judge of Santa Clara County and chair of the statewide committee of presiding judges advising the chief justice and the Judicial Council. She also supervised both the civil and family divisions of the Santa Clara County Superior Court.

Based in the Silicon Valley Resolution Center, Judge Lucas will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator, handling personal injury/torts, securities, unfair competition, government/public agency, intellectual property, employment, class action/mass tort and business/commercial cases. She is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country.

Judge Lucas has served as a leader and educator within the Silicon Valley legal community for decades and is respected for her ability to work with parties and employ active listening and thorough preparation in each case that she handles. We are grateful she has joined the JAMS panel and are confident she will thrive as a neutral.

- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO

Prior to the bench, Judge Lucas was a partner and chair of the litigation group at Silicon Valley law firm Fenwick & West. In her career as an advocate, she represented clients in a wide range of substantive areas, including intellectual property, employment, products liability, real estate, antitrust and contract disputes. She tried cases and argued appeals in both state and federal courts.

Throughout my time on the bench and as a courtroom advocate, I learned the dynamics of trial strategy and how to understand the needs of parties from diverse backgrounds. I hope to channel this perspective in my new role at JAMS and look forward to helping parties reach meaningful resolutions to their disputes.

- Hon. Patricia M. Lucas (Ret.)

Judge Lucas received her B.A., cum laude, from Rice University and her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
