Silicon Valley, Calif. – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. Marla O. Anderson (Ret.) has been honored with the President’s Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s (NAACP) Monterey County Branch. The award was presented during the 52nd Annual Life Membership Banquet on September 21 in Seaside, Calif.

The award acknowledges an individual’s continued commitment to work within communities leading in civil rights, justice and equality for all. Award honorees exemplify the NAACP’s mission to “achieve equity, political rights and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminate discrimination and accelerate the well-being, education and economic security of Black people and all persons of color.”

Judge Anderson joined JAMS in 2024 after almost three decades as a judge, having served on both the Monterey County Municipal Court and the Monterey County Superior Court. During her time as a judge on the superior court, she presided over each of the court’s calendars and served as a presiding judge. She also served on the Judicial Council of California, the policymaking body of California's court system, for 10 years and chaired the Legislation Committee, where she was instrumental in helping to pass key judicial reforms in California. 

In her role at JAMS, Judge Anderson serves as a mediator, arbitrator and neutral evaluator. She mediates cases in a variety of practices areas, including business and commercial; employment law; estate, probate and trusts; family law; government and public agency; health care; insurance; personal injury; and professional liability.
