Hon. David S. Cohn (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Los Angeles
Distinguished Superior Court judge joins JAMS as a mediator and arbitrator
Riverside, Calif. – JAMS, the premier provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. David S. Cohn (Ret.) has joined its panel. He brings decades of combined judicial and litigation experience, including 23 years of distinguished service as a Superior Court judge for the County of San Bernardino.
Judge Cohn founded and presided over the Complex Civil Division of the Superior Court for San Bernardino, handling employment class actions, consumer class actions, Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) cases and complex, multiparty business disputes. Before serving in the Complex Division, he handled a wide variety of civil cases, including those involving personal injury, medical malpractice and wrongful termination. He has also presided over felony jury trials, treatment courts and juvenile dependency court.
Based in the Los Angeles Resolution Center, Judge Cohn will serve as a mediator and arbitrator, handling employment, family law, class action and mass tort, business and commercial, health care, personal injury and real estate matters. He is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country and internationally.
“Judge Cohn combines seasoned judicial leadership with deep experience in complex civil matters and a practical, results‑oriented approach to resolution. He is widely regarded for helping parties with different viewpoints reach agreement, guiding disputes toward durable outcomes.”
Kimberly Taylor, JAMS CEO and president
Judge Cohn was instrumental in implementing a policy of requiring informal discovery conferences (IDCs) prior to the filing of discovery motions, resolving more than 90% of such disputes without litigation. Earlier in his career, he spent 16 years in private practice as a litigator. Outside the courtroom, he has supervised and taught high school students volunteering as poll watchers and previously taught civil procedure as an adjunct professor of law.
“Every case can be settled. My approach is to listen carefully, exploring what is truly important to each party. We can then uncover common ground, avoid the risks and uncertainties of litigation, and find fair, meaningful and lasting solutions,” said Judge Cohn. “As I begin this next chapter with JAMS, I look forward to continuing this work and helping parties achieve resolution.”
Judge Cohn earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law and his B.F.A. from U.S. International University.
