JAMS Chicago is unique in its ability to gather so many retired federal chief judges practicing ADR. Judge Charles N. Clevert, Jr. will moderate a lively discussion with other former federal chief judge colleagues from the 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th circuits. The panel will discuss recent trends in ADR, including their work in neutral analysis, mock trial and appellate review in a variety of contexts.

Best Practices in Insurance Settlements
Session B1 (Concurrent) | 2:45 PM to 4:45 PM

This session will discuss issues relating to the settlement of cases involving insurance, including the role of the insurer claims representative; the role of primary and excess carriers;  the kind of information needed by the insurer and insured to prepare for a settlement conference; obtaining settlement authority; issues of multiple insureds and policy limits; ethical, privilege and practical problems concerning provision of information to the insurer and situations where the insurer and insured differ in their case evaluations or settlement goals; and settlements where there are coverage disputes.  
 
The session will begin with a discussion of these legal and ethical issues and be followed by a discussion among experienced mediators on how to successfully resolve these kinds of disputes.

Special Considerations in Title IX
Session B2 (Concurrent) | 2:45 PM to 4:45 PM

This session will provide an overview of Title IX, VAWA and the role of legal counsel in college and university processes.  Retired Judges Eileen M. Brewer and David H. Coar will address the significant and recent changes in federal law (and guidance), and the impact on intersection with existing federal, state and local laws. 
 
The presenters will focus on the evolution of the role of legal counsel in campus processes and specifically address: public and private institution considerations; traditional student disciplinary processes and their intersection with Title IX and VAWA; the parameters of legal representation in campus processes; and other concomitant legal actions.
