Keeping the Peace During Times of Racial, Political, Cultural and Social Strife

Our society continues to cope with the aftermath of 2020 as we suffer from the effects of COVID-19 and struggle to roll out a vaccine, all in the midst of tremendous political upheaval and ongoing racial strife. Against the backdrop of these divisive issues that touch our political, cultural and social beliefs, mediators may find themselves in tough situations which challenge their ability to maintain their status as an impartial mediator. If not managed, such dialogues can create bigger divisions among parties who are already in conflict. We will address specific situations a mediator might encounter and discuss techniques and strategies for navigating through these challenges to mitigate their impact on mediation.
