Jerome B. Abrams, Retired Judge, First Judicial District Court, Joins JAMS in Minneapolis

Former district judge joins JAMS as arbitrator, mediator and special master/referee

New Panelist Announcement

Minneapolis – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Jerome B. Abrams, Retired Judge, First Judicial District Court, Minnesota. Judge Abrams joins JAMS in Minneapolis after a distinguished 14-year career as a Minnesota district court judge and 27 years as a successful lawyer with a national practice based in Minneapolis. His experiences as a trial lawyer and judge have given him unique insights that allow him to serve as a neutral in all types of cases. He has also received training and served as an ADR neutral under Minnesota rules.

As a judge, Judge Abrams was appointed to many of the most complicated and high-profile cases in Minnesota state courts, including many multidistrict assignments. These cases have involved hundreds of mechanic’s liens in failed housing developments and high-rises, construction defects resulting in tens of millions of dollars in claimed damages and complicated environmental cases concerning the regulation of solid waste landfills.

Based in the Minneapolis Resolution Center, Judge Abrams will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master/referee, handling insurance, personal injury and torts, employment, class action and mass tort, construction, business and commercial, professional liability and agribusiness disputes. He is available to conduct sessions in person (adhering to reopening guidelines), as well as virtually for attorneys and their clients across the country.

Judge Abrams is known for his extensive knowledge of the law and his ability to handle even the most complex of matters. As an ADR advocate, he has developed the right tools to help parties resolve matters, and we’re confident he will thrive in this new role as a JAMS panelist.

- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO

As a national leader for the improvement of civil justice, complex case management, court technology and e-discovery, Judge Abrams has presented on over 100 occasions to groups in the U.S. and abroad on these and related subjects. He continues to author texts on insurance coverage for business torts and e-discovery, and he wrote a bench book for business courts published by the American Bar Association.

Throughout my career, I’ve learned how important it is to connect with the parties to understand every element of any case. I’m looking forward to applying my knowledge and experiences in this next chapter of my career as a neutral at JAMS.

- Judge Jerome B. Abrams

Judge Abrams received his B.A. from Beloit College and his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law.
