Hon. David A. Thompson (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Orange County

Former appellate justice joins JAMS as arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator

New Panelist Announcement

Irvine, Calif. – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Hon. David A. Thompson (Ret.) to its panel. Justice Thompson joins JAMS after a distinguished 24-year career on the bench. As a justice of the California Court of Appeal for nine years, he authored hundreds of opinions covering civil and commercial litigation. Previously, Justice Thompson served 15 years as a trial judge in the Orange County Superior Court, where he presided over hundreds of civil trials and heard thousands of civil motions.

Based in the Orange County Resolution Center, Justice Thompson will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator, handling appellate, real property, business and commercial, construction defect, personal injury and torts, professional liability, estate/probate/trusts, employment, insurance, environmental, family and banking disputes. He is available to conduct sessions in person (adhering to reopening guidelines), as well as virtually for attorneys and their clients across the country.

Justice Thompson is known for his friendly demeanor, approach to problem solving and ability to see all sides of any case. His ability to apply real-world experience, coupled with his deep knowledge of the law, will enable him to handle even the most complex of matters as a neutral with JAMS.

- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO

Prior to taking the bench, Justice Thompson was in private practice for 14 years with two large civil firms. As a civil litigation attorney, he handled general business, construction defect, landlord-tenant, product liability and real property cases for companies and individuals. As a business transaction attorney, he dealt with many aspects of acquiring, developing, financing, leasing and selling commercial and residential real property.

Through the years, I’ve learned that being prepared, connecting parties and crafting creative solutions will help resolve matters. Becoming a JAMS neutral is a natural progression of my career, and I’m looking forward to working alongside the talented panel at JAMS.

- Hon. David A. Thompson (Ret.)

Justice Thompson received his B.S.B.A., summa cum laude, from Georgetown University and his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
