Experienced professor joins JAMS as arbitrator, mediator and facilitator

New Panelist Announcement

Dallas – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Angela Downes, Esq., to its panel. Professor Downes joins JAMS in Dallas as a neutral after a distinguished career as a mediator, educator and attorney.

As a professor of practice and assistant director of experiential education at the University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law, Professor Downes developed and manages the law school’s clinical mediation programs, connecting students with underserved clients throughout the city.

Based in the Dallas Resolution Center, Professor Downes will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and facilitator, handling business and commercial, health care and insurance disputes. She is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for attorneys and their clients across the country.

Professor Downes is recognized for her thoughtfulness, attention to detail and patience, which are essential qualities to possess in the dispute resolution process.Because of her unique background and deep understanding of the law, we know she’ll be a great addition to the JAMS panel.

Prior to joining the university, Professor Downes’ practice included policy and legislative work in the areas of criminal justice, interpersonal violence, and child abuse and protection. She is a recognized subject matter expert in interpersonal violence issues, providing training, policy advice and technical assistance to nonprofit agencies and state and local government officials.

As an innovative and critical thinker, I am committed to using creative solutions and exploring alternative approaches to resolve conflict. My primary goal is to help parties reach mutually beneficial agreements, even in the most challenging and contentious situations. I’m eager to apply my background and experience in this new step of my career as a JAMS neutral.

Professor Downes received her B.A. from Mercer University and her J.D. from the Texas A&M University School of Law (formerly Texas Wesleyan University School of Law).
