Hon. Michael R. Wilner (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Los Angeles

Former federal court judge joins JAMS as an arbitrator, mediator, special master/referee and neutral evaluator

New Panelist Announcement

Los Angeles – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that the Hon. Michael R. Wilner (Ret.) has joined its panel. Judge Wilner joins JAMS after serving for 13 years as a United States Magistrate Judge in the Central District of California.

While on the bench, Judge Wilner handled hundreds of settlement conferences, discovery motions and civil trials. He was a member of the federal court’s Patent Program, where he was assigned to handle discovery disputes and conduct settlement conferences in complex patent, copyright, and trademark and trade dress lawsuits. Regularly sought out for his work, Judge Wilner conducted the most jury and bench trials by consent in the Central District for several years.

Based in the Los Angeles and Century City Resolution Centers, Judge Wilner will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, neutral evaluator, discovery referee and special master, handling business and commercial, cybersecurity and privacy, employment, entertainment and sports, environmental, intellectual property, professional liability and securities cases. He is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country and internationally.

While on the bench, Judge Wilner was highly respected and sought after for his work. His outstanding reputation in the Los Angeles legal community is backed by his passion for the law and kind disposition. We are looking forward to seeing him thrive in this new role as a JAMS neutral.

- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO

Beyond his tenure on the bench, Judge Wilner worked as a trial attorney, appellate lawyer and investigator during his 30-year career in federal public service. In those roles, he developed a deep understanding of all aspects of federal litigation practice. He also has served as a guest lecturer and moot court judge at the UCLA School of Law, USC Gould School of Law, Loyola Law School, Southwestern Law School and UC Irvine School of Law.

On the federal bench, I enjoyed being an in-demand settlement judge for lawyers, litigants and colleagues with complex business, tort and IP cases. I look forward to bringing my energy, creativity and compassion to JAMS.

Hon. Michael R. Wilner (Ret.)

Judge Wilner earned his A.B, with honors, from Dartmouth College and his J.D., with honors, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
