Hon. Gloria J. Sturman (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Las Vegas

Former jurist joins JAMS as an arbitrator, mediator and court-appointed neutral (special master/referee)

Las Vegas – JAMS, the premier provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. Gloria J. Sturman (Ret.) has joined its panel. She joins following 15 years on the bench in the Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada.

Before taking the bench, Judge Sturman practiced civil litigation for more than 25 years. She was a partner at Edwards, Hale, Sturman & Cushing, Ltd., from 1983 to 2005, and she later practiced with Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker and Buckley King. She represented public entities and private clients in complex, multiparty litigation in state and federal courts, and briefed and argued appeals before the Nevada Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Based in the Las Vegas Resolution Center, Judge Sturman will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, court-appointed neutral (special master/referee), handling probate, estate and trust; professional liability; personal injury; insurance; government; employment; class action and mass tort; and civil rights matters. She will also act as an alternate judge under the rules adopted by the Nevada Supreme Court for Alternate Trials. She is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country and internationally.

In addition to her judicial career, Judge Sturman has significant ADR experience. She has served as a court-appointed arbitrator for Nevada’s Mandatory Arbitration and Short Trial programs and was appointed by the Clark County Commission to serve as a pro tem justice of the peace. During her time on the bench, she regularly conducted settlement conferences for probate, personal injury and commercial cases assigned to other judges.

“With over 25 years’ experience as a civil trial attorney and 15 years’ experience as a judge presiding over civil and probate cases, I look forward to working with litigants at JAMS to resolve their most important and challenging disputes,” said Judge Sturman.

Judge Sturman earned her J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law and her B.S., cum laude, from Arizona State University. She additionally earned her M.J.S. from the University of Nevada, Reno.
