Atlanta – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce Hon. Timothy C. Batten, Sr. (Ret.), has joined its panel. Judge Batten joins JAMS following his distinguished 19-year tenure as a U.S. district court judge for the Northern District of Georgia.
Judge Batten served on the bench from 2006 to 2025, including as chief judge from 2021 to 2025. Notably, he presided over Pearson v. Kemp, which alleged fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Prior to being appointed to the bench, he practiced with Atlanta-based law firm Schreeder, Wheeler & Flint from 1984 to 2006, where he was lead counsel in over 25 civil trials that went to verdict as well as co-counsel on dozens of other jury trials. His practice areas included medical malpractice, products liability, construction, commercial contracts, fraud and personal injury.
Based in the Atlanta Resolution Center, Judge Batten will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and neutral evaluator, handling business, commercial and insurance; class actions and mass torts; civil rights and Title VII; intellectual property; personal injury and torts; and securities matters. He is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country and internationally.
“We are pleased to welcome Judge Batten to our panel at JAMS. Beyond his extensive legal background and analytical skills, he brings high emotional intelligence and empathy to each case. He is well equipped to foster trust and guide parties toward meaningful, mutually beneficial outcomes.”
Kimberly Taylor, JAMS CEO and president
Outside his judicial duties, Judge Batten has contributed to the legal community as a featured speaker for the American Conference Institute and the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Section. He has also served as a jurist in residence at the University of Georgia School of Law, where he teaches a survey course, Introduction to the American Legal System.
“During four decades as a commercial litigator and then a federal district judge, I tried scores of cases and settled even more. I particularly enjoy the challenge of mediating arduous disputes that supposedly will never settle,” said Judge Batten. “I am honored to join the talented panel at JAMS and look forward to this next step in my career.”
Judge Batten earned his B.S., summa cum laude, from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law.
