This year the USC-JAMS Arbitration Symposium is proud to collaborate with Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
Join the USC Gould Center for Dispute Resolution for a day of networking and interactive programming including a keynote address by Sheila Ahuja, Partner, Co-Head of India Practice Group, Allen & Overy in Singapore and panel discussions covering topics such as subpoenas, third-party evidence and disputes in the life sciences. To conclude the day of programming, we will move the discussion over to our JAMS Los Angeles Resolution Center for the #YoungITA Talks Panel and Closing Reception of the 7th Annual USC-JAMS Arbitration Symposium in collaboration with SIAC (separate registration required, see below for more details).

Keynote Title: Anti-Suit Injunctions and Non-Parties: Clear or Muddy Waters?
Synopsis: Anti-suit injunctions are often sought when court proceedings are commenced in breach of an arbitration agreement. However, things are not quite plain sailing when anti-suit injunctions are brought by – or against – a non-party who, prima facie, is not entitled to rely on the arbitration agreement. What are the issues and challenges confronting a non-party in such situations? How have courts and tribunals dealt with these questions, particularly in a domain where caution and comity are commonly preached?

Subpoenas and third-party evidence in arbitration. This panel will review the current status of the law on the ability to compel non-parties to an arbitration to produce evidence. The panel will consider the differences between domestic arbitration and international arbitration, recent 9th Circuit and US Supreme Court cases and other relevant case law.

A panel of California corporate in house decision makers across industries will discuss the challenge facing international arbitration in 2023 and beyond: how to adapt and make the necessary changes to continue to be the dispute resolution mechanism of choice for their corporate end users.
