JAMS Launches International Arbitration Center in Houston

Strategic Expansion to Meet Global ADR Demand

JAMS has expanded its Houston operations with the opening of a state-of-the-art International Arbitration Center. Located at 609 Main Street, a landmark skyscraper in downtown Houston, the new center enhances JAMS’ global arbitration capabilities and joins a network of established arbitration hubs in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

Houston: A Key Global Arbitration Seat

The decision to launch in Houston reflects the city’s growing prominence in international commercial disputes, especially in the energy sector. Houston-based JAMS neutral Hon. Michael Massengale (Former), FCIArb emphasized the region’s critical role as a crossroads for disputes involving Mexico and Latin America. He noted that Houston’s strategic location and business climate make it a natural choice for international arbitration growth.

Modern, Tech-Enabled Arbitration Facilities

The Houston International Arbitration Center features:

  • Over a dozen conference rooms
  • Premium amenities
  • Modern, fully equipped hearing spaces
  • State-of-the-art video conferencing technology

These offerings align with global expectations for top-tier arbitration venues and cater to international legal practitioners and clients.

Boost from Mexico's Judicial Reforms

Mexico's sweeping judicial reforms, which involve replacing all judges and shifting to elected judicial appointments, are fueling greater interest in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including mediation and arbitration. Massengale sees this as a prime opportunity for cross-border cases to flow through Houston.

Launch Coincides with Global Arbitration Conference

The opening comes as Houston hosts the prestigious Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA) Workshop and Annual Meeting, attracting arbitrators from across the globe. JAMS is leveraging this event to showcase its new facility and reaffirm its commitment to international dispute resolution.
